POLICE SERGEANT PROMOTIONAL

The following reading list for Police Sergeant has been reviewed and is recommended in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Police Officers and Sergeants, Article 10, addressing Police promotional examinations. Specific dates, times, and locations for all phases of the promotional process will be announced at a later date. The written test is tentatively scheduled for late October 2008 with the oral examination and assessment center taking place in late October and November.

Check-Out Procedures
1. All textbooks will be checked out from the Bureau of Training secretary or a member of the staff at the TrainingAcademy.
2. No officer will be permitted to check out any textbook which appears on any of the promotional examination lists for more than two weeks at a time.
3. The Bureau of Training will maintain a reserve list which will determine those officers desiring to check out textbooks. If the text is not immediately available, the officer will be responsible for having his/her name placed on the reserve list. Each candidate will be personally responsible for initiating the check out procedure when the reservations system is applicable.
4. Persons wishing to check out a text for a second time may do so for 1 week providing another officer has not reserved the text.
5. If any officer wishes to check out a text which he/she has previously checked out and returned, he/she must again place his/her name on the reserve list if the requested text is unavailable.
6. Persons not eligible for promotions will not be permitted to check out texts appearing on any current promotional list during the 90 day period preceding the formal testing process.
7. Only one text may be checked out at any one time.
8. Also texts that have been checked out cannot be marked in, or highlighted in.
